The Academy Awards is not just an esteemed awards ceremony in North America or the western world, it is in fact very well-respected on a global scale as well. This is no coincidence, since the Academy Awards is actually the oldest worldwide film awards ceremony. The importance of the Academy Awards is even easier to understand when you realize that it is the oldest awards ceremony honoring any form of entertainment.  As a result of this, the Academy Awards has had a direct and noticeable impact on several other award shows that can be considered as its equivalent in other fields of entertainment. The most notable examples of this are the Grammy Awards for music and recording, the Emmy Awards for television, and the Tony Awards for theater.

As of 2017, the Academy Awards have been awarded for almost 90 years. While the original awards ceremony had only 12 awards, that number has since doubled to 24 awards today.

This quiz takes a look at the past nine decades of filmmaking, featuring many of the most interesting and noteworthy Oscar-winning films. Do you think that your performance on this quiz will be award worthy? Then c’mon, act your heart out and let’s see if you’ve got what it takes!
